CHILD WELFARE – “IT’S THEIR GAME”

Stepaside F.C. Members,

This is an important message for everyone in our club community.

As we reach the business end of the season, it’s natural that the stakes begin to feel higher. Teams may be progressing in cup competitions, and final league positions are coming into focus after months of hard work and commitment.

But this is exactly when child welfare matters most.

In a few years’ time, no one will remember the scores — but the experiences we create for our children will stay with them for life.

All of our coaches complete the FAI Safeguarding course, where they hear the story of “Brian” — a child who was repeatedly left on the bench despite being promised game time. At Stepaside F.C., we are committed to ensuring that no child ever has an experience like that.

We ask parents and guardians to support our coaches, who work hard to manage matches responsibly, always with every child’s welfare as the top priority.

While it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of a cup run or league success, our club ethos remains clear:

- No child is left on the bench — in fact, the more “important” the game, the more important it is that every child feels included.

- Every child receives at least the minimum playing time, in line with FAI guidelines for their age group.

- Coaches follow planned substitutions and rotations — these are not changed based on mistakes, goals conceded, or match circumstances.

Our coaches understand that these bigger matches often bring larger crowds and more attention. They will ensure that every member of the squad has the opportunity to be part of the matchday experience.

Win or lose, we do it together — as a team.💙🖤

Thank you for your continued support.
